Municipal House

The Municipal House is one of the most famous Art Nouveau buildings in Prague, where the history of the Czech nation was written.

This majestic national cultural monument stands right next to the Powder Tower where the Royal Mile begins. The Municipal House was built between 1905-1911 on the grounds of a former Royal Court Palace and houses a spectacular concert hall. The Municipal House boasts a unique elegant atmosphere. The building was decorated inside and out by leading Czech painters and sculptors of the early 20th century including Alfons Mucha, Mikoláš Aleš and Max Švabinský. If you like concerts, you should visit Smetana Hall which accommodates up to 1,200 people and where well-known music festivals such as Prague Spring or Organ Summer take place. After taking in some culture you can discuss your experience with your friends while enjoying a fine meal at the Francouzska Restaurace, which also boasts a gorgeous Art Nouveau interior, or over a cup of great coffee at the Municipal House Cafe
